ROAD BLOCKED AFTER WIND TURBINE LORRY GOES INTO FIELD

collapsed turbineA NEW wind turbine being brought into Co Donegal today to replace one which fell over has ended up in a field – after the lorry carrying it left the road.

The road between Maas and Ardara is closed as a result.

It was on its way to the Loughderryduff wind farm where a turbine fell over in high winds.

The road is blocked on the route.

The new €1M turbine was on its way to replace the one which fell over.

In May two cranes and several lorries spent two days on the windfarm at Loughderryduff, near Mass, Portnoo, as the 245-ft turbine was broken down before being transported to Derry.

A spokesman for the developers, North West Wind Ltd, confirmed that the fallen turbine had been removed to Derry.

The turbine, which has a lifespan of around 25 years, fell just four years after being erected in the eight-unit development.
