GOLF NEWS – PORTSALON TO REINTRODUCE MULROY LINKS

Mulroy Winter Links

Over theGOLF LOGO months the popular Mulroy Links Competition will be re-introduced. Following a brief lapse the Mulroy Links will be staged over two of the major golfing links courses in the North Wests Rosapenna and Portsalon Golf Courses. The competition will be staged at alternative dates on either Rosapenna and Portsalon courses. The Mulroy Links is an open competition with the usual prizes on offer. The event will tee off on Saturday 28th September at Portsalon Golf Club. As this event will attract a large turnout from members and visitors a time sheet will be in operation on each course for each event. The Mulroy Links will tee off on Saturday 28th September at Portsalon Golf Ccorse, Saturday 12th October Portsalon Golf Club, Saturday 26th October 2013: Portsalon Golf Club, Sauturday 9th November 2013: Old Tom Morris Links 23rd November 2013: Rosapenna Golf Resort Old Tom Morris Links, Saturday 18th January 2014: Portsalon Golf Club, Saturday 8th February 2014: Rosapenna Golf Resort Sandy Hills Links, Saturday 22nd February 2014: Rosapenna Golf Resort Sandy Hills Links, Saturday 15th March 2014: Rosapenna Golf Resort Old Tom Morris Links. The competitions conclude with the Mulroy Links Captains Day on Saturday 29th March 2014: Portsalon Golf Club. Entry fee into this premier event will be a joining fee of €15 and on the day of competitions €10 for members of both Rosapenna and Portsalon golf clubs and €20 for visitors. Both members of Rosapenna, Portsalon and visitors should note that if you unable to play on the day please ensure that your name is removed for the time sheet, thus allowing someone else a place in this prestigious event. Team News.

 

On Sunday 15th John Fitzgerald will lead his team in the return leg of the Dfinal of the Donegal Minor League. Following the first leg match the Portsalon team lead Buncrana Municipal by three matches to two matches. According to the team captain the match is only at half time and the Portsalon team will still have to deliver on the day to claim the Donegal title. On Friday evening last Portsalon entertained our neighbours Rosapenna golf club in the first leg semi final match. The match ended all squre with the Rosapenna men heading over the bridge with two and half matches. The return leg will be a played on Sunday at the Rosapenna Golf resort.

Results

The winner of the open competition played on Wednesday 4th was Frank Mc Carthy (13) with 39 points,runner up John mc Ginley (21) 37 points, gross Sam Faulkner (9) 25 points, third Donal Mc Cafferty (12) 37 points. The CSS was 34 points. With the adverse weather on Saturday the scheduled open was cancelled. On Sunday the winner of the members competition was Eamon Mc Dermott (50 38 points, runner up John Shields (6) 38 points, gross D P Logue (4) 31 points third Joe Harkin (21) 37 points. The CSS was 34 points.

Captains Outing

One of the onerous tasks bestowed on the vice captain is to organise the captains outing. The vice captain Dermot Boyce has this year arrange a remarkable golfing feast with golf to take place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October 2013. The event will be staged at our twinned partner Headford Golf Course Kells Co Meath .With hotel accommodation arranged at the Headford Arms Hotel one night bed & breakfast and one evening meal and lunch on Sunday. Golf has been arranged on the Old course on Saturday and on the new course on Sunday. The all in price for accommodation and golf is €100. As places are limited and the list is filling up for further details contact the clubhouse on 0749259459 or contact the vice captain Dermot Boyce. Please forward your name and deposit of €50 to either Dermot Boyce or to the office staff. Remember if no deposit is paid there will be no reservation made.

 

Events

On Saturday 14th September there is an open gents stableford competition and on Sunday 15th September it’s a members competition. On Wednesday18th September an 18 hole open gents competition A time sheet is in operation for all competitions contact 0749159459 or go online to portsalongolfclub.com.

A New Look for Portsalon Golf Shop

Members and visitors to Portsalon Golf Club will see the major upgrade which has taken place to the club shop area, The new layout has a much needed shop where both members and visitors can purchase many golf requirements not forgetting the Portsalon Continuing Story. It may also be the place to purchase the next birthday present or just the perfect gift for your golfing partner.
