The North West Cancer Support Group has announced that their major fundraising event on September 28th has been cancelled.1004542_367471920023041_276076585_n

The ‘Bling Ball’ was scheduled to take place at an Chúirt Hotel in Gaoth Dobhair to raise much-needed funds.

The group provides subsidised flights from Donegal Airport to Dublin for cancer patients.

In a statement on her Facebook page, organiser Mary Mc Ginley of Burtonport who founded the charity, said the lack of support has forced the decision.

“It is with much disappointment we have to cancel the event. This is due to the lack of support we have received.

“We would like to than everyone who have paid for tickets – a refund will be sent to you,” said the statement.

The organisers have also paid tribute to An Chúirt Hotel for their understanding and support in making the decision.

The €50 a head event offered a five course meal and music for the night by the popular Crystal Swing.

The provision of the subsidised flights to Dublin are mainly dependent on this annual fundraising event.

However a spokesman for the group said they will continue to seek to provide the subsidised service for cancer patients.
