A Donegal lighthouse has been named as the SECOND most beautiful lighthouse in the world.
Fanad Lighthouse beat lighthouses from around the globe in a poll of stunning coastline structures.
The building came second only to Lindau Lighthouse in Germany in the online poll carried in renowned website Mental Floss.
The 90ft lighthouse was built in 1818 after a large ship sank off waters in Fanad in 1804.
The lighthouse was manned by up to three lighthouse keepers and was electrified in 1975.
More recently an allocation of €500,000 has been made towards the renovation of the lighthouse.
It is hoped that a coffee and craft shop as well as accommodation can be provided for visitors.
