In the recent U12 Hurling ‘C ‘Final Gaoth Dobhair travelled to Burt in what was a repeat of the league fixture a week earlier.
In that league game Burt beat Gaoth Dobhair by a point that night. One week later Gaoth Dobhair turned the tables and ran out winners in what was a fiercely contested final played in windy and wet conditions.
Burt opened the scoring and went into a 3-0 lead. The lads from Gaoth Dobhair woke up and scored points from Eoin De Burca and Dáithí Óg Roberts before Burt pulled away again with the wind at their backs. Burt led at the interval 0.5-0.3
Gaoth Dobhair and Burt went hell for leather during the second half. Burt started the stronger and bombarded the Gaoth Dobhair goal but just couldn’t score.
Gaoth Dobhair were able to clear their lines with Aodán Breathnach and Gavin Mac Giolla Comhaill impressive.
Gaoth Dobhair clawed back to 5-5 thanks to points from Dáithí Óg .
It looked like a draw and extra time but for 2 frees from Dáithí Óg, the last one with the last puck of the ball to round off a great season for the Gaoth Dobhair lads.
This was their first season u12 on their own having played under Cú Uladh, an amalgamation of Dungloe and Gaoth Dobhair, last year.
Most of this team will be u12 again next year so things are looking good for hurling.
A special thanks to James Hartnett who threw his Dungloe hat into the ring with Gaoth Dobhair this year.
Maith Sibh a ghasúirí Gaoth Dobhair!!
