DONEGAL TD’S ANGER AS CENTRAL BANK BOSS ADMITS: ‘I DIDN’T LISTEN TO ALL ANGLO TAPES’

Pearse Doherty DailSinn Féin Donegal TD Pearse Doherty has said Governor Patrick Honohan’s admission today that the Central Bank has not listened to the rest of the recordings from Anglo is “incredible”.

Governor Honohan admitted this fact under questioning from Deputy Doherty in today’s Finance Committee.

Deputy Doherty told Donegal Daily afterwards: “This admission from the Governor that the Central Bank has access to but hasn’t listened to hours more of Anglo recordings is incredible.

“I was shocked to hear Governor Honohan say that the Central Bank has no intention to listen to the rest of the recordings or read any transcripts.

“This week, the Central Bank caused a great deal of public anger by saying it would not forward any further information to the authorities based on the Anglo Tapes. I welcome Professor Honohan’s commitment day to review this decision.

“Today, even more incredibly, it has emerged that the Central Bank has not even bothered listening to the rest of the recordings. How can Governor Honohan say he doesn’t believe there is an further evidence in the Anglo tapes one day and then admit the next day he hasn’t listened to the rest of the tapes?

“There is a huge public interest in getting to the truth about what happened in Anglo. For the Central Bank to say now that it sees no point in listening to more of these tapes is incredible. The Central Bank is uniquely placed to judge whether any regulatory breaches exist in the tapes. They must do their job and listen to the tapes and pass on any comments or reports to the Gardaí and Director of Corporate Enforcement.”
