Gardai are to step up patrols after a spate of burglaries in a Letterkenny suburb.

Patrols have been stepped up in the Glencar area.

Patrols have been stepped up in the Glencar area.

The move follows a number of incidents in the Glencar area in recent weeks.

In the latest attack, an 80 year old pensioner was attacked and robbed in her home.

A lone raider got away with a sum of money and also took the woman’s wedding ring.

Garda Inspector David Kelly confirmed they are following a definite line of enquiry in the case.

He also revealed that manpower is to be stepped up in the area.

Mayor of Letterkenny, Cllr Pascal Blake, welcomed the move and said he was disgusted by the latest attacks.

“Old people feel vulnerable in their homes and they need assurance that they can be safe at night.

“I welcome the announcement that patrols are to be increased in the area.

“The latest attack in which a woman was hospitalised is just disgusting,” he said.

Mayor Blake also confirmed that an allocation of funding has also been granted for increased lighting in the area.
