All Ireland Poetry Day is being celebrated throughout the country today with readings and performances celebrating the spoken word.

In Donegal, a night of poetry and music is taking place at Dánlann an Ghleanna, Gortahork at 8.30pm tonight.

Now in its sixth year, All Ireland Poetry Day will be a marathon poetry reading streamed live from the Irish Writers’ Centre in Dublin which will feature readings by Dermot Bolger, Peter Sirr, Theo Dorgan and Enda Wyley, among many others, as well as a panel discussion involving the new Ireland Chair of Poetry, Paula Meehan.

This event will be streamed live at www.poetryireland.ie/live

Organisers say the object of the day is to celebrate poetry in very county in Ireland and in a variety of ways via imaginative programming, venues and locations.

The live stream will also feature a special tribute to Seamus Heaney by Dublin school children, as well as film of Brendan Kennelly reading his poetry.
