Daniel O’Donnell has said he is glad his father-in-law did not suffer a long death.

Tom Roche passed away last week after suffering a brain haemorrhage following a fall down some stairs at his home in Tenerife.

The Donegal singer said his wife Majella and her family are taking some comfort that he didn’t suffer too long.

“They are grateful for a lot, especially that he didn’t suffer and didn’t know anything about what happened.

“That kind of thing comforts them. Obviously it’s sad and they’re shocked, but they’re glad he had a great life. Once he didn’t suffer that was the main thing,” said the Kincasslagh entertainer.

Both Daniel and his wife Majella, who herself in battling breast cancer, sang hymns at Tom’s funeral mass in Las Americas on Friday last.

Tom, who was originally from Thurles in Co Tipperary, was cremated after the mass.

His family will host a funeral service for him in Thurles in the New Year.

Daniel recalled how he played many games of cards over the summer with Tom and wife Marion.
