The game played at St. Patrick’s Park in very wet conditions opened with the home side making a lot of chances and they opened the scoring after ten minutes when Ronan Coyle picked the ball up wide right and played Seami “Nanni” Friel in to a one on one with Michael Lynch and the ball was slotted coolly into the bottom corner. Both teams had chances and the best for the visitors best came when Paul McCauley slipped however Packie Mailey was there to clear the ball. Conor Carlin produced a wonderful solo run left him with a one on one but Michael Lynch saved the effort. Heavy rain came on as the it came in to half time and this made a big difference as the ball was held up.
The conditions were becoming increasingly difficult as both teams pushed a fantastic driving run from Benny Bonner and one two between himself and Ronan Coyle resulted in a lobbed effort hitting the post from the left back, Richard Moore made no mistake and finished the rebound. Moore nearly became provider when he crossed beautifully to Mark Marley who hit the post.
