FORMER IRELAND MANAGER CRITICISES DONEGAL COUNTY BOARD OVER MURPHY FINAL DECISION

Michael MurphyFORMER Ireland International Rules manager Eugene McGee has launched a verbal attack on the Donegal County Board over its decision to go ahead with last Sunday’s county final – forcing captain Michael Murphy to play two games in two days.

The Glenswilly man celebrated his second Championship medal win on Sunday as his side brushed aside Killybegs.

The match took place less than 24 hours after Murphy captained Ireland to victory over Australia.

McGee said the fixture should be taken more seriously.

“We had a ridiculous situation where the captain of the Ireland team had to play a full match on Saturday night and then go back to Donegal to play with his club team in the Donegal county final,” McGee said.

“That is not acceptable. It is asking too much, although it did go well for Murphy as he was a great success in both games.”

McGee also criticised the Australians for their performance.
