BEO has been involved in the promotion of homegrown talent for 5 years now but this is their first attempt at providing a competition for young artists.

BEO which is now a nationally recognized body based in Colaiste Ailigh Letterkenny are delighted with the response to their competition.

Winners will collect €3,000 and a recording on Radio RíRa CD for Seachtain na Gaeilge.

Cian Mac Cartaigh of Radio na Life commented that it a hugh opportunity for a young artist to get their music on a nationally distributed CD and the money will go a very long way toward funding quality studio time.

Many of Ireland’s artists are embracing Gaeilge when writing songs prime examples being The Coronas, The Dirty 9’s, Seo Linn and DaithíO Dronaí.

The competition was made possible with a collaboration with Udaras na Gaeltachta and Foras na Gaeilge where all parties felt that a competition of this nature would be ideal for 2013 Bliain na Gaeilge.

10 finalists were selected by judges Ronan Mac Aodha Bhuí and Colm O Baoill from the many entry’s received by BEO in the last few weeks. Each entry were asked to make a video performing their song and explain a little about the background of their entry. Ronan commented that it was a very difficult task to cut the list to 10. The entries varied from solo artists to rock pop and folk bands.

The competition was very well received in schools in the early part of the new year which can be attributed to the BEO team travelling all over the country promoting their project.

The final will be held in the Malton Hotel Killarney, at 7pm tonight. Winners will be announced at 10pm. Entry is free.
