MET EIREANN has issued a rare Orange Alert weather warning for Donegal this afternoon.
The forecasters say winds could gust to extremely damaging speeds of 130km/hr.
“There will be widespread heavy showers this afternoon, some thundery or of hail,” said a Met Eireann spokesman.
“It is becoming very windy with west to northwest winds increasing strong and gusty as the afternoon continues.
“Winds will be extremely strong with damaging gusts of up to 130 km/hr possible.”
There’ll be further heavy showers tonight, some possibly thundery. It will continue windy for much of the night with strong, gusty west to northwest winds. However winds will gradually ease overnight.
It will also be a very chilly 2C.

Becoming extremely windy at times today in coastal areas. West to southwest winds, veering west to northwest, will reach mean speeds of 60 to 75 km/hr with possible damaging gusts of 110 to 130 km/hr.
