end of an era: goobye to this for pupils at Coláiste

Donegal Education and Training Board are delighted to confirm that today marks the official handover of the new Coláiste Ailigh School Building to the Principal, Staff and Students.

Ruairí Quinn, T.D., Minister for Education and Skills announced on 12th November 2012 that eight schools were being constructed in 7 different counties under a single Public Private Partnership (PPP) contract including Coláiste Ailigh, Leitir Ceanainn.

Construction of the new Coláiste Ailigh building commenced in November 2012 at Donegal ETB’s site at Knocknamona/Carnamuggagh, Letterkenny.

The contractors, BAM PPP completed the construction of the new School in a 51 week period.

The new state of the art facility will cater for 350 pupils. The official Opening of the new Building will take place in the Spring of 2014.

Donegal ETB is most grateful to the Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn, T.D., together with his predecessors in the Department of Education and Skills for authorising this project to proceed to construction stage. Donegal ETB also wishes to extend its thanks to the National Development Finance Agency (NDFA) for its assistance with the project.

Donegal ETB also wishes to thank all those who have assisted in bringing this project to completion, including the staff, past and present of the College, the Principal, Micheál Ó Giobúin, past and present Chairpersons and members of the Donegal ETB [formerly Donegal VEC], Boards of Management and Parents Associations of the School, our CEO, Mr Shaun Purcell, and former CEOs.

Coláiste Ailigh was established in 2000. It is an All-Irish Second Level School. The School falls under the remit of Donegal Education and Training Board [formerly Co. Donegal Vocational Education Committee]

Colaiste Ailigh is one of eight schools which comprise the third PPP contract (Bundle 3) in the Department of Education and Skills Schools PPP Programme which is being procured and delivered by the National Development Finance Agency on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills.

Is mian le Bord Oideachais agus Oiliúna Dhún na nGall a chuir in iúil ( ó inniu, Déardaoin 7 Samhain 2013) go bhfuil an foirgneamh scoile nua Coláiste Ailigh a thabhairt anonn go hoifigiúil don Phríomhoide, Foireann agus do na Daltaí Scoile.

D’fhógair an tAire Oideachais & Scileanna, Ruairí Quinn, TD., ar an 12 Samhain 2012 go mbeadh 8 (ochtar) scoil nó foirgnimh úra á gcur ar fáil i 7 gcontae dhifriúla faoin tsamhail Comhpháirtíochta Príobháidí Poiblí (CPP) – ina measc bhí Coláiste Ailigh, Leitir Ceanainn. Bhí tús déanta ar na tógáil uile seo i mí na Samhna 2012 ar an suíomh seo atá c.8.8 acra talaimh ag Cnoc na Móna / Carnamuggagh, Leitir Ceanainn. Rinne na Conraitheoirí BAM CPP an foirgnimh a chríochnú i 51 seachtain ina iomláine.

Tá áit anseo do bhreis agus 350 mac léinn chun freastal ar an scoil nua seo, agus beidh an Oscailt Oifigiúil ann san Earrach 2014 (dáta go fóill le socrú). Tá Bord Oideachais agus Oiliúna Dhún na nGall an-bhuíoch don Aire Oideachais & Scileanna, Ruairí Quinn, TD., i dteannta a chuid réamhtheachtaí sa Roinn Oideachais & Scileanna as an tionscadal seo a thabhairt fhad le céim na tógála. Ba mhaith le Bord Oideachais agus Oiliúna Dhún na nGall buíochas fós a ghabháil leis an Ghníomhaireacht Náisiúnta Forbartha Airgeadais (GNFA) as an chomhairle agus cuidiú leis an tionscadal seo a thabhairt chun críche.

Ba mhaith le Bord Oideachais agus Oiliúna Dhún na nGall fós a mbuíochas a chuir in iúl do gach duine a thug an Tionscadal seo chun críoch, sé sin foireann agus iar-fhoireann an Choláiste féin, an Phríomhoide, Micheál Ó Giobúin, an Cathaoirleach agus Iar-Chathaoirligh an Bord Oideachais agus Oiliúna Dhún na nGall (sé sin Coiste Gairmoideachais Chontae Dhún na nGall roimhe) agus an Príomhfheidhmeannach faoi láthair, Seán Puirséil, agus na Príomhoifigí Feidhmiúcháin roimhe.

Críoch.

Nóta Breise

Bunaíodh Coláiste Ailigh sa bhliain 2000. Is Scoil Lán-Ghaeilge Dara Leibhéal atá ann. Titeann an scoil faoi chúram Bord Oideachais agus Oiliúna Dhún na nGall (sé sin Coiste Gairmoideachais Chontae Dhún na nGall roimhe).

Tá Coláiste Ailigh mar cheann amháin do na ochtar (8) foirnimh scoile nua atá mar pháirt do Beartán 3 ón Chomhpháirtíocht Príobháidí Poiblí (CPP) leis an Ghníomhaireacht Náisiúnta Forbartha Airgeadais (GNFA) agus atá faoi stiúir an Roinn Oideachais & Scileanna.
