Letterkenny Chamber is looking forward to the Christmas Lights switch on that takes place on 29th November and you could be flicking the switch!
After the success of last year we will once again see Main Street retailers offering hot drinks and Christmas treats in the evening of the big switch on.
An art competition has been launched with the schools and the luck winner will get to throw the switch with the Mayor Paschal Blake.
Letterkenny Chamber are responsible for all aspects of the Christmas lighting in Letterkenny and with funding from Letterkenny Town Council over the years they have managed to make a great display.
However it is a costly affair and the chamber is appealing to the general public to give us a little of their spare change where they see the collection boxes. Shops across the town have been given collection boxes and all the proceeds will go to outing up and maintaining the lights.
Chamber President John Watson explains “Letterkenny Chamber is grateful to Letterkenny Town Council for the money they contribute for Christmas Lights, but it is a costly business and while we would like to be able to continue to do it each year and to invest in new lights we need to add to the funding.
“We are distributing collection boxes to all types of businesses over the next few days and we would be delighted if the general public could give a donation. We got such a great audience last year for the Christmas lights switch on and our members contributed so much to the atmosphere throughout the evening. So we are making this appeal for contributions, big or small to help us continue to make it a success”.
The street will be buzzing from 5pm with stalls, music and family fun just before Santa and the big switch on at 7pm.
