LISSADELL COURT VICTORY GREAT BOOST FOR DONEGAL – HOTELIER

LissadellThe decision taken on the Lissadell Estate has been welcomed by tourism providers in Donegal as planning continues for the 2014 season.

Fianna Fail councillor and Bundoran hotelier Philip McGlynn has welcomed the ruling saying that it will provide a much needed boost to tourism in the region.

The house owners of the house near Grange, Co Sligo, won a Supreme Court case on Monday past, denying access to their grounds by some locals who had claimed rights of way.

An earlier High Court case ruling in favour of the handful of residents has led to Lissadell House being closed for most of the year.

It’s now expected owners Edward Walsh and Constance Cassidy will develop the site once again as a tourist attraction.

“I’m delighted to see that Lissadell House will be opening up again in 2014. In previous years thousands of visitors have come to the region specifically to see the house and gardens and now once again, as we go into the marketplace for the 2014 season, we will see Lissadell House back on the tourist map,” said McGlynn.

“I’d like to congratulate the owners and wish them every success as they set about reopening this unique visitor attraction’.

With its location, Lissadell House and estate offers tourism potential for both counties Sligo and Donegal with Bundoran being a large accommodation hub within 20 minutes drive.

Tourism Officer for Bundoran Shane Smyth said: “It’s great news that yet another major tourist attraction has become available again. At least a couple of times a week during the 2013 season visitors to the Tourist Office in Bundoran were enquiring about Lissadell House and whether it was open or not. We look forward to telling them in 2014 that it is open again for business’.”
