Inishowen Sinn Fein councillor Jack Murray has said that plans for a full pedestrian crossing, complete with traffic lights and a button which allows pedestrians to cross will go ahead….finally!

Cllr Murray said he was delighted with the development and commended the local Sinn Fein Cumann, local businesses and members of the community for working together to improve road safety in the village.

Cllr Murray said: “For years the people of Muff have demanded a proper pedestrian crossing in the village. Now thankfully, plans to install a full crossing with traffic lights will go ahead as soon as is possible.

“At last Tuesday’s meeting of the Inishowen Electoral Area Committee meeting, the senior roads engineer agreed to my proposal to install the crossing as long as local businesses were in favour of the proposal.

“As such, local Sinn Féin members along with member of the local community, met with every business in the village and asked them to sign a petition in favour of a full and controlled pedestrian crossing.

“Every single business has now pledged their support and the campaign for the crossing has finally been taken over the line.

“This crossing will massively improve road safety in Muff and I want to commend the local community, the local businesses and my Sinn Féin colleagues for bringing this campaign to a successful conclusion.”
