The emergency services have rushed to the scene of a road crash on the outskirts of Lifford this evening.Garda-accident

The accident, between a truck and a car, happened just after 5.30pm.

It is not thought that anybody has been seriously injured but at least one person has been taken to hospital.

However major tailbacks are expected on what is one of Donegal’s busiest roads.

The accident happened close to the Rosgier Inn.

Gardai, the ambulance service and the fire service are now at the scene.

Traffic was diverted on the Letterkenny side of the accident in the direction of Ballindrait while vehicles travelling from Lifford were being directed towards Porthall and St Johnston.

An eye witness said there are now major tailbacks.

“It looks like the accident involved a truck without a container behind it and a car. I’m not sure how it happened.

“All I now is that until they get the wreckage cleaned up there are going to be some major tailbacks,” he said.
