DONEGAL TD Padraig Mac Lochlainn has launched a blistering attack on a TV3 documentary on his party.

The station broadcast the second in a two-part documentary on Monday night.

The show, seen as naive at times, was roundly criticised for its simplicity by TV reviewers.

Inishowen politican Mac Lochlainn didn’t hold back on his view.

“Did Pádraig Pearse have a mandate? Did James Connolly? Sheer hypocrisy on the TV3 documentary from those who abandoned hundreds of thousands to an apartheid state,” said the Donegal Deputy.

“The Republican Movement from the 1918 to 1921 period emerged undefeated from a two year war and tragically were split down the middle over the peace settlement.

“The modern Republican Movement emerged undefeated from a 25 year war with overwhelming support in their ranks for the peace settlement. Both wars were profound tragedies.

“But for those who are where they are today thanks to the period of conflict from 1916 to 1921 to attempt to demonise and criminalise those caught up in the most recent conflict takes some brass neck. Of course, it’s nothing to do with the growing strength of my party….” added Mac Lochlainn in a sarcastic end to a post on Facebook.
