Donegal County Council gritters will be out in force tonight following a warning of a plunge in temperatures.

Gritters will be back on Donegal's roads tonight.

Gritters will be back on Donegal’s roads tonight.

Gritters will be out on a number of primary routes across the county from 9pm onwards.

A total of 17 routes are to be gritted.

These routes can be viewed on the council’s new interactive gritting route website.

Donegal County Council says its Winter Maintenance Policy for Roads is to endeavour, within the limited resources available, to maintain major traffic routes in the county in a passable condition.

However it has warned that the primary responsibility for road safety remains with the driver.

‘Assume that no road is ice free’ warns the council.

Despite today’s storm and sudden plunge in temperature, it is understood that temperatures will rise in the coming days.
