Buncrana Town Councillor Ciaran McLaughlin has pleaded with Inishowen people to shop locally.Cllr Ciaran McLaughlin

In the run-up to Christmas, the Sinn Fein politician said he is asking the public to consider the jobs dependent on those spending money locally.

“I would like to ask everyone where possible to shop local this Christmas. Support local shops, restaurants, pubs and in doing so help secure jobs. The more money spent in Buncrana and local towns in Inishowen, the more jobs we can keep and create.

“Businesses pay rates that pays for local amenities such as roads, footpaths, the library and our green areas and parks. I would urge the public to support our local businesses this christmas in our local towns and villages in Inishowen,” he said.

He added that small businesses have been badly squeezed and are struggling to keep their doors open.

“Let’s also be conscious and where possible choose local, regional and Irish produce and goods which we are lucky to have in abundance.

“I know times are tough and money is scarce for many families but let’s support our local businesses, and as the money is spent locally that can only be good for the local economy.”
