Majella O’Donnell has revealed she is having a double mastectomy in February.

The 53 year old mum of two said it was her choice to have both her breasts removed in her ongoing battle with cancer.

“I’m not worried about it. It’s like everything, I face it and just get on with it and I’m not going to worry about it or think about it too much at this stage – I just want to enjoy Christmas.

“It’s my own choice, I don’t have to, but that’s the way I want to go,” she said.

Majella and husband Daniel were back in Ireland yesterday to cut the ribbon on the opening of the Best of Irish Designs Collection in Clery’s Department store.

Majella added that she is looking forward to a quiet Christmas in Donegal.

She also said she has to remain strong following the death of her father Tom Roche in Tenerife in October.

“I must be a strong person because between the cancer and my father dying very suddenly, it’s been a very tough time,” she said.
