The Republic of Ireland and Everton player asked Rachel to marry him earlier today.

The couple have been dating for nine years.

Rachel, who is also from Killybegs, told her friends her wonderful news on twitter.

And Rachel, who studied at Dublin City University, said she just couldn’t stop crying when Seamus, 25, popped the question.

She tweeted “Special news..Seamie jst proposed to me after 9 years. Cant believe it in so much shock and can’t stop crying! Happiest girl in the world x.”

Friends of Rachel and Seamus have been flooding their social media pages with messages of congratulations.

Seamus has been on fire for his club Everton scoring five goals already this season.

He is already the subject of lots of speculation linking him to his former manager David Moyes at Manchester United.
