THERE is widespread shock in Co Donegal at the deaths today of the “beautiful” Brogan sisters who died in a house fire in Letterkenny this morning.

Jody Brogan and her big sister Anngeline perished in the blaze at their home at Ceannan View in the town.

A man in the house managed to escape without injury and raise the alarm.

Donegal fire service crews rushed to the scene just after 11.10am today and found the house ablaze.

One of the sisters was pronounced dead at the scene whilst the other died a short time later at Letterkenny General Hospital.

Gardai believe the fire began in the front living room of the house and spread to the bedroom upstairs where the girls were.

Letterkenny Mayor Paschal Blake said the town was in mourning.

“This is the most terrible tragedy and the community will rally around the family in the coming days and weeks as they come to terms with what happened,” said Cllr Blake.

Social media sites tonight are carrying heartfelt tributes to the sisters.

“You were two beautiful people and heaven has two more angels,” said one friend.

Another wrote: “Can’t believe you are gone. We’ll miss you both so much.”
