‘STAY AWAY FROM COAST’ WARNING TO STORM ONLOOKERS

storm7SAFETY experts are warning people not to venture too close to the coast today – just to see massive high tides.

There have been a number of deaths in Britain of people going too close to the sea trying to take photographs.

The Irish Coast Guard says the practice could be just as ‘fatal’ for anyone doing it here.

High tides this morning could cause coastal flooding especially in west Donegal.

The county will escape the worst of the weather with the south and west of Ireland expected to be hit with the biggest waves. A Yellow Alert is in operation  until midday here in Donegal.

However an Irish Coast Guard spokesman insisted: “During severe storms and especially high tides our coastal waters become even more dangerous.

“No-one should venture too close to the water. It could prove fatal.”

High tides in the south west of Donegal are due around 9am. Waves of up to 24ft are possible at times.

There is some good news.

Met Eireann says the wild and windy weather will ease from tomorrow with mild and calm weather later in the week with very little rainfall.
