factoryTHE community in Killybegs is in a state of shock and disbelief this evening following the death today of a fish factory worker.

The employee died after being trapped in machinery at the Sean Ward Fish Exports company in the Donegal town.

An ambulance was summonsed to the scene shortly after 3.20pm.

A 21-year-old Donegal man, from 6kms away, was later pronounced dead.

Gardai were also there and have informed the Health and Safety Authority as a matter of routine.

TD Thomas Pringle, who lives in the fishing village, said the community is coming to terms with the news.

“It is an awful shock and of course my sympathies go to the family of this man,” he said.

The Ward factory is a well-respected and well-known local employer.
