GOLF NEWS – LARGE TURN-OUT FOR CAPTAIN’S DRIVE AT PORTSALON

Drive In

There was a large turnout for the traditional Captain’s drive-in at Portsalon golf course on Sunday last. Despite the poor weather on the Saturday and in the early hours of Sunday morning as the winds and rain battered the North West was not enough did not deter the members from witnessing the captains drive into 2014.The drive-in was held on the new first tee. On arrival at the clubhouse the incoming captains had a pleasant surprise for the members with tea, coffee and a vast array of buns and cakes. The captain of Otway golf club Martin Duffy joined our captain’s at the drive-in. As the morning progressed the weather improved and the large turnout had a good days golf. The competition was a classic format with two scores counting at each hole.The overall winning team was John Logue, Betty Boal, Sean Strain and Mick Bowe with 94 points, runners up was the captains team Dermot Boyce, Sarah Nicholl, Kathleen Mc Cormick and Martin Duffy with 90 points. 3rd Pat Bonner, Michael Dunne, Ray Porter and Vera Kearney with 89 points. Once completed of their round of golf the members were treated to soup and sandwiches. The President Kathleen Mc Cormick wised the Dermot Boyce and Sarah Nicholl success in there term as Captains of Portsalon Golf Club.

 

Special draw

By now members will have received their membership notice and the exciting Portsalon Golf Club’s fundraising draw. The tickets are priced at €20 and on offer are the following fantastic prizes. The winner will receive a four ball golfing trip to sunny Portugal (excluding flights) 2nd prize a year’s membership at Portsalon golf club and 3rd a weekend of golf at our twined Headford golf club.

 

 

Mulroy Links

The next outing of the Mulroy Linkes will be staged at Rosapenna Golf Course on Saturday 8th February. All Mulroy Links members please note that the time sheet remains as per the previous competitions. If you are unable to play please inform the clubhouse either at Rosapenna Golf Club.

 

Results

The winner of the open staged on Wednesday 29th was Sean Campbell (28) 42 points,

Runner up Chuck Mc Taggart (10) 38 points, gross Gerard Duffy (5) Letterkenny 31 points, 3rd Eamon Mc Conigley (12) 37 points. The CSS was 35 points.

 

 

Events

On Saturday 8th February there is a gents open competition, On Sunday 9th a members competition and on Wednesday 12th an open 18 hole stableford event a time sheet is in operation contact 074 91 59459 for your tee time or go online at portsalongolfclub.com

Subscriptions

The council wish to remind all members that their fees for the 2014 golfing year are now due. An early payment would be appreciated.

 

Winter Rules

Winter rules are now in place for in order to protect the surrounds of our greens during the Winter months. Please refer to the notice prior to teeing off.

Locker Rooms

It has come to the attention that a number of golfers are leaving their clubs and trollies in the locker room. Members should note that the locker rooms do not provide a secure lock up facilities for clubs or trollies and these should be removed.

 

Placing

Members and visitors should note that 6 inch placing on fairways only has been introduced a bit earlier than usual in order to allow the green staff carry out repairs to some of the fairways.

 

 

On Line Booking

Members and visitors to Portsalon Golf Club should note that on line booking is now available for all competitions at Portsalon at the flick of a button go to portsalongolfclub.com

 

 

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box and should you forget there is another chance to pick up a bag on the second tee box. . Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
