The Minister for Health, James Reilly, has admitted his department is having difficulty filling essential posts at Letterkenny General Hospital.

The Minister made his comments in the Dail this morning.

He revealed that there are 26 vacant full-time doctor’s posts at the hospital but that 14 of these are currently being filled in a temporary capacity.

The response came following a question by Donegal Deputy Charlie McConalogue.

TD McConalogue said the reply was simply not good enough.

He said the Minister does not specifically address what is being done to address the lack of cover.

“I don’t think it’s acceptable for the Minister to say that we “have to live with it,” he said.
