‘DONEGAL TUESDAY’ PUNTERS FACE CRITICISM OVER ‘BOOZE CULTURE’

donegal tuesdaySTUDENTS who took part in the so-called ‘Donegal Tuesday’ in Galway have faced a barrage of criticism online.

Gardaí were out in force in Eyre Square last night to prevent disorder.

Officers say the vast majority of people taking part in the unofficial rag week event were well behaved.

And C2 Security, which provides door staff for Galway’s pubs, said there had been no bother throughout the day, even praising those taking part.

However Social Media went haywire with people criticising the event.

“Disappointed with image of #donegalgaa on 9 news tonight, what idiot came up with the idea of #DonegalTuesday?” asked one Donegal GAA fan on Twitter.

“These same people will be out next week protesting that they can’t afford to eat because they are poor students. Where do they get the money?” asked one of the many critics on Facebook.

The event wasn’t criticised by everyone however.

People from other counties bemoaned the fact that they didn’t have a special booze day for them.

And Donegal footballer Mark McHugh Tweeted his support.

He posted a pic of a queue outside a pub and wrote: “9.45AM outside The Hole In The Wall Galway today! Only can mean one thing! #DonegalTuesday Love to be down! #Jealous pic.twitter.com/TNw6JLstUv.”
