Gardai have confirmed they are investigating an aggravated burglary at the home of a young couple in Lifford.Garda

The couple, the man aged 34 and the woman, 29, received injuries and had to be hospitalised after the attack.

Although Gardai are declining to comment on certain aspects of the incident, Donegal Daily understands it was a terrifying attack.

The couple were attacked with a wheel-brace and suffered numerous injuries to the head and fingers.

The attacked happened in the Porthall area between 7.30pm and 8pm.

It is also understood that a child was in the house during the attack.

It is not known what was taken during the burglary.

It is not thought Gardai are linking the incident with recent attacks on the elderly in recent weeks.

A Garda spokesman confirmed “We are investigating an aggravated burgary in the Lifford area of Co Donegal.

“The attacked happened between 7.30pm and 8pm. The incident was reported to Gardai later.

“Both the man and the woman were taken to hospital. for treatment. We are still not sure what was taken during the incident.

“We would appeal to anybody who may know anything to contact the Gardai.”
