A former police chief from Ballybofey has hit the back of the net with his efforts for The Gathering.

Retired NYPD Deputy Inspector Paul McCormack received the prestigious Best Sports Gathering Award at Trim Castle in Meath from Minister for Sports, Deputy Michael Ring TD yesterday.

Mr McCormack was recognized for the extraordinary work he put in bringing the wonderful Gathering events he organized to Dublin and Donegal in 2013.

He brought the NYPD Gaelic Football Club to Croke Park for the first time, and arranged a special day in Croke Park for 44 local children from the Beann Eadair GAA club in Howth.

He also arranged a special gathering charity game in MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey.

Jim McGuinness and the 2012 Donegal Allstars joined forces with the NYPD team in a match against an Irish Legends team.

Thousands of people turned out for a great game and a Donegal-New York night afterwards in Jacksons Hotel, Ballybofey. All proceeds from the event went to support Letterkenny General Hospital.
