A COMMUNITY activist is to stand in the local elections in Glenties.

Brian Carr is chairman of the Glenties Community Action Group and hopes to represent the area as an independent.

“I was asked to go for the election and will be representing the local community,” he said.

“I have been active in the area on committees for more than 20 years so know how things work and hope to keep going for many more.

“There are 5 councillors at the moment, for the next election there will be an extra seat up for grabs, with four councillors from Dungloe to Falcarragh and only one councillor from Dungloe to Ardara.

“It’s we got another seat for our area. So we have to join forces and work together for the good of the area.

“There are so many things that could be listed that need to be done and points that need to be addressed –  employment and infrastructure two of the main ones – and I’m sure I will hear a lot more on the campaign trail.”
