Donegal adventurer Jason Black has been given one of the highest awards in scouting in recognition of his achievements in mountaineering.scout Jason

The award, developed between Mountaineering Ireland and Scouting Ireland, is a grade 9 of mountain leader with hill-walking skills with expert status.

This is the highest Leadership Award in the Adventure Skills that Scouting Ireland may confer – an expert status.”

Jason said “To receive this award from Scouting Ireland presented to me by Raphoe cubs & scouts, has been so humbling.

“I joined cubs at the age of seven years and continued into my late teens as a scout. I travelled and went on adventures throughout the length and breath of Ireland, England and Scotland as a young boy.

“It set me the greatest foundation in life and played a strong role in the success in life – right to the summit success on the north side of Mt Everest .Jason Black 6

“So much a role did scouting play in my early life that of all the things I could have brought to the summit, the only thing I brought and wore was my original cub/scout scarf which still means so much to me.

“I spoke lately at the northwest founders day to all the cub/ scouts and it was great to see that scouting is still at grass roots level was untouched by technology and purely still about the simple things in life, teaching great life skills to young children that will serve them well in a fruitful direction in life.

“After a lifetime in scouts, I’m extremely honored to receive this award which once again signifies that, with the right focus, determination and training, everyone can achieve anything in this life.

“There is no mountain too high and there is no problem too BIG to conquer”.
