DONEGAL LADIES SHOW TRUE GRIT DESPITE ONE-POINT LOSS TO MAYO

geraldine mclaughlin DONEGAL LGFA NEWS: DONEGAL’S Senior Ladies showed their true grit as they put in a battling performance against Mayo in Castlefin today.

They may have lost by the narrowest of margins – 4-10 to 2-17 – but they can take great heart from a good performance right across the pitch, with Geraldine McLaughlin (pictured) once again in a class of her own with a personal tally of 3-04.

Former manager Michael Naughton returned to the dug-out for the game today and the players responded with a battling performance.

Donegal trailed 2-05 to 1-10 at half-time, closed in on Mayo throughout the second half and could have snatched a win with a last minute goal effort.

But it wasn’t to be their day.

The Donegal Ladies however can take a lot from today’s game, not least that they are much better than the performance they gave against Dublin a week earlier.

Donegal: Niamh Mailey (Convoy), Kelly Wilson (Convoy), Nicole McLaughlin (Termon), Emer Gallagher (Termon), Rose Boyle (St Eunan’s), Katie Herron (Glenfin), Therese McCafferty (Termon), Kate Keaney (Four Masters), Karen Guthrie (Glenfin, 0-2,1f), Roisin Friel (Termon, 0-1), Eilish Ward (St Naul’s, 0-1), Niamh Carr (Milford), Geraldine McLaughlin (Termon, 3-04, 2f), Karen Feeney, Ciara Hegarty (Moville). Subs: Aisling Cunningham (Killybegs, 1-01) for N Carr.
