BUSINESSMAN PUNCHED HIS OWN SISTER DURING FAMILY ROW

A West Donegal businessman punched his own sister after she had become involved in a row with his wife in a supermarket.

Patrick Doogan of Lower Baltony, Gort a’Choirce admitted assault causing harm to Julie Anne Coyle on March 31st last year.

Letterkenny District Court heard that the assault on his sister, took place following an altercation between Ms. Coyle and Doogan’s wife at McClafferty’s supermarket in Gort a’Choirce.

Doogan later went to his parent’s home to speak to his sister about the incident.

Inspector David Kelly said a heated exchange ensued and Doogan grabbed his sister by the throat and punched her in the face, knocking her to the ground.

Ms Coyle was kept overnight for precautionary reasons at Letterkenny General Hospital where she had suffered soft tissue injuries.

Doogan, who was in court for the hearing, works in London where he operates his own tunneling company.

Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case until June for the preparation of a victim impact statement.
