MURRAY SUBMITS MOTION ASKING FOR ELECTION JOBS TO BE ADVERTISED

jack murrayInishowen Sinn Féin councillor Jack Murray has submitted a motion for debate at Monday’s council meeting which calls for widespread advertising, including in social welfare offices, of election job opportunities.

Cllr Murray said: “Hundreds of people are employed in Donegal during every election for duties such as issuing ballot papers and counting votes. However many people are unaware that they can apply for these positions or how to do so.

“With such widespread unemployment in Donegal and with so many people who are very capable of such work seeking employment, it is common sense that these positions should be more widely advertised.

“I am hopeful that this motion will be successful and that more people will have the opportunity of securing these positions during the election in May.”

The motion reads: That Donegal County Council requests that all positions which are to be recruited to staff election day, such as election booths and the count centre, are advertised as widely as possible, including in social welfare offices.
