The child, who had two of her fingers jammed in the doors, was awarded €26,800 in damages at Letterkenny Circuit Court yesterday.

The accident happened at the Greencastle Community Development Company on April 16th 2012.

The child, who was two years old at the time, had to have surgery to repair severe damage to two of her fingers.

Barrister Peter Nolan said the girl had suffered “an extremely painful injury and was extremely upset at the time.”

She was rushed to hospital and later received plastic surgery but has been left with a scar.

Judge Keenan Johnson praised the surgery team for excellent work after viewing the scar in his chambers and said surgeons had done an “excellent job.”

He approved a settlement of €26,807 to the girl to be invested on her behalf until she is 18.

He praised the girl who was in court wit her mother and said “Her smile would light up any room.”

He ordered an advance payment of €500 to buy the little girl a present.
