The work, which is due to be completed in the next month or so, involves re-roofing and a roof insulation upgrade and is being carried out by McMenamin Building Contractors Ltd., Dreenan, Ballybofey.

The kitchen was upgraded in November 2013 to environmental health specifications. All electrical works have also been upgraded and fire compliance works are still ongoing and are due for completion later this year.

Five beds have also recently been reopened at the hospital, bringing to 35 the total complement of beds.

Commenting, Kieran Doherty, General Manager, HSE Donegal said, “The upgrading works and the additional beds will be of great benefit to patients and the local community. Additionally, this demonstrates the commitment in HSE Donegal to the important role of community hospitals in providing quality services to people in their local area.”

Dungloe Community Hospital provides a range of health services to the people of West Donegal, including a 16-bedded residential centre, a day hospital, outpatient clinics, X-ray department along with additional specialist services such as physiotherapy, mental health, social work and speech and language therapy.

A palliative suite is also provided, enabling family members to stay with a relative at the end of life.

Communal accommodation for residents and patients includes two sitting/dining areas, a main kitchen, two pantry kitchens, a laundry and staff facilities. There is also garden space to the front and rear of the building.
