UPDATED from scene: A number of people have been injured – one of them seriously – in an horrific car crash in Co Donegal today.
It is understood that three people have now been taken to hospital after the accident but it is not known how badly injured they are.
The crash happened after 8am on the main Letterkenny to Lifford Road close to Tully’s Tyres at Tullyrap.
The driver of a van was thrown from his vehicle in the accident involving a BMW car, a Ford Focus and the van.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to Letterkenny General Hospital along with two other people.
There were long delays in the area as traffic on the normally busy road was diverted via side roads and through both Ballindrait and Raphoe.
A Garda spokesman said: “Officers are attending the scene of a serious road traffic collision earlier today.
“The main Letterkenny to Lifford Road will remain closed for some time whilst an investigation into the incident continues.”
Gardaí appealed for motorists to take care and drive with patience whilst the diversions remain in place.
