Community Candidate in Letterkenny/Milford area, Peter Cutliffe has said that Donegal County Council needs to evaluate its role and services it provides to the public.

” I believe the Council now needs to be a leader in job-creation within the County & bring-together the mixture of job-creation agencies in a meaningful way” he said.

He said we are witnessing the gradual erosion of the Council role as we know it.

“For instance the transfer of water -services to Irish water & the outsourcing of driving-licence functions. Also, with motor tax & other services available on-line & planners not available to take phone calls, I believe the role of the County Council needs to re-assessed to make it more relevant to the needs of the people.

“I believe that there are opportunities, for example, for the Council to explore the potential to develop & expand the rural post-office network into business/enterprise centres and we need leaders to go out & pursue large job-opportunities, like Pramerica or United Health Care ,for our people. I do not see this happening at the moment,” Mr. Cutliffe concluded.
