MAN FOUND ON BUNDORAN SHORELINE HAD BEEN IN WATER FOR SOME TIME

GARDA OFFICERFORENSIC experts believe the remains of a man found in Bundoran had been in the water for some time.

The remains were badly decomposed and Gardaí are carrying out a major investigation to help to identify him.

The beach where the man was found, close to a housing estate, is rocky and rarely used by the public.

Local Sinn Fein Councillor Mick McMahon said the community was in shock at the discovery.

“It’s very sad,” said Cllr McMahon.

“Someone has lost their life, possibly at sea, and the remains have landed on our shores.

“It appears that no-one has been reported missing in the area so this person may not be from this area.”

A post mortem examination is taking place today at Sligo General Hospital.
