John Stenson RIP

THE body of a man found in Bundoran has been identified as that of a Mayo man last seen in Galway in March.

John Stenson, Ballinvilla, Turlough Road, Castlebar and formerly of Knox, Killasser, Swinford, was a father of four.

The 58-year-old had been last seen walking at the promenade at Salthill, Galway on March 24.

His remains were spotted by local people on the beach close to the ‘Crest of the Wave’ housing estate in Bundoran on April 15.

Forensic experts identified the remains as that of the father of four last night and his family was informed.

There had been huge searches along the Galway coast for Mr Stenson.

In a statement today, his family said: “We wish to thank everyone who helped in any way over the past four weeks. It has been a great comfort to the family and your kindness will never be forgotten.”

His remains will be reposing at Kilcoynes Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar on Saturday from 5.30pm with removal at 7.30pm to the Church of the Holy, Castlebar arriving at 8pm. Mass on Sunday at 12 noon with the funeral afterwards to the New Cemetery, Castlebar. Family flowers only. Donations in lieu to Galway Civil Defence or the R.N.L.I.
