Northern Board U14 Quarter Final @ O’ Donnell Park
St. Eunan’s U-14 B Team 3-11
Letterkenny Gaels A Team 5-09
Letterkenny Gaels U14 team travelled across town to play neighbours St Eunan’s B team (the club’s U-13 side) in the Northern board quarter final. J Doherty (injured) and C Farrell (sick) were both unavailable for the Gaels.
On what was a beautiful evening for football Gaels played into a strong breeze in the first half. St Eunan’s had registered 2 points before Gaels sprung into action when R Marley opened the scoring for the Gaels with a point following some good outfield play.
St Eunan’s raced into a 1.6 to 0.3 lead before M Sweeney found the net for the Gaels. Eunan’s scored another goal before half-time to leave the half-time score St Eunan’s 2.7 Gaels 1.3.
In the second half playing with the breeze Gaels rattled off 2 points before Eunan’s came back and scored a goal and 2 points due to some lax marking by Gaels leaving the score 2.9 to 1.5 in favour of St Eunan’s.
However the Gaels rallied and a great through ball found J Winters on the edge of the square and he dispatched the ball to the back of the net.
D Cahill then scored an outstanding individual goal to get the Gaels right back into the game. R Marley was picked out with a great pass and nutmegged the keeper. Not to be outdone D Cahill scored another outstanding goal similar if not better than his earlier goal.
Ronan Frain scored a great point from play and R Marley added two frees for Gaels. The Gaels ran out winners by 4 points in what was a very exciting game of football.
M Sweeney, B McLough, Gabrial, K Margey, R Frain and T Cassidy, had excellent games with D Cahill being outstanding.
