The dual carriageway outside Letterkenny is to undergo repairs in the coming weeks for major potholes.

Large potholes have appeared on Letterkenny dual carriageway.

Large potholes have appeared on Letterkenny dual carriageway.

Motorists have become very concerned recently after a number of potholes developed on the stretch of road.

A number of motorists had complained they were being forced to swerve to avoid the holes.

It is believed recent harsh winters caused the potholes.

Local election candidates John Watson said he has been contacted by a lot of people in the past week about the deteriorating condition of the surface of the dual carriageway.

And he revealed “Many people feared the large holes on the road surface would cause an accident. I have made enquiries regarding this and I have been informed that this is a material failure and that the contractor will be carrying our repairs in the next few weeks.”

The matter has also been raised in recent weeks by Letterkenny Town councillor Gerry McMonagle.
