Joe McHugh in DailTHE POTENTIAL for new jobs in north Donegal is included in a €1M Government announcement today.

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD was just issued funding of €1 Million for Inshore Fisheries Structures, Development and Conservation Package.

Deputy Joe McHugh says he is delighted – because there is potential for new jobs following a recent meeting in Downings.

“I welcome the very positive announcement from Minister Coveney today that there will be an investment of €1 million on inshore fisheries for 2014. I also commend the Minister on all the work he is doing with BIM,” said Deputy McHugh

“I recently organised a meeting with BIM CEO Jason Whooley, in Downings, Councillor Noel McBride and a number of Mr Whooley’s colleagues to discuss a possible investment into the food processing aquaculture industry with the availability of vacant units in the area.

“It was a very positive meeting and BIM agreed to fund a scoping study at both Mulroy and Sheephaven Bays into the long term viability and development potential in the area.

“ I am very grateful to Mr Whooley and his colleagues for coming up to Downings and giving our proposals full consideration. The potential for growth in this area of food processing is evident and I will work closely with my colleagues in ensuring that all avenues are pursued around the development of this project, which will not only have a positive impact on the local community but could lead to job creation.”
