FEARS FOR 50 JOBS AS RECEIVERS TAKE OVER TWO PUBS AND TWO SHOPS

brewryTHERE are growing fears tonight of job losses after two well-known pubs and two shops were taken over by receivers appointed by the banks.

The Brewery Bar and The Central Bar in Letterkenny as well as the Lagg Service Station in Milford and Blaney’s Mace shop in Kerrykeel were all visited by representatives of the receivers on Friday.

A shocked eye-witness spoke of how the Lagg Service Station was closed by men wearing suits around teatime on Friday, and later re-opened that night.

Fifty people are employed across the four businesses which were run by members of the Blaney family.

They had been in negotiations recently with AIB over loans of €3.5M.

Staff in some of the businesses had been due to receive wages last week.

“They just walked in and shut the shop,” said one eye-witness in Milford.

“When I went in later on the till was closed and change was being given out of a tin.”
