Stranorlar Area Labour candidate, Brian McCrea, has today welcomed the very positive response he has received from Minister of State for Transport and Tourism, Alan Kelly, in relation to a Greenway Cycle path in the Barnesmore Gap area.  Brian Mc Crea-1007 (1)

McCrea has recently highlighted the huge potential for local investment and employment that such a project may deliver, and is calling again on the incoming council to make a case for the area.

The Minister told McCrea, ‘Given the popularity and success of Greenways already delivered, I will continue to explore funding streams for such projects given their contribution to community life as well their significant economic stimulus potential’.

McCrea told Donegal Daily, “In recent weeks the Minister has announced that €10m has been earmarked to develop Greenways and cycle routes and has ‘strongly urged Donegal County Council and local interest groups and yourself to continue to campaign and seek funding for the development of Greenways in Donegal’.

McCrea continued, “The EU Structural Funds Programme 2014 to 2021 is currently being finalised and there may be significant opportunities for cycle infrastructure development under Inter-reg and the Rural Development Programme.

McCrea concluded, “A previous application with the County was unsuccessful and at present no further applications have been submitted.
