SOCIAL PROTECTION WORKER ON DATA BREACHES CHARGES

gavel1AN Illistrin man has appeared in court on 64 charges of accessing information on computers at the Department of Social Protection and passing information to a third party.

Rory Lenihan, from 2A Ballaghaderg, appeared at Letterkenny District Court.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at the offices of the Department of Social Protection offices at Oliver Plunkett Road in Letterkenny between January 2008 and October 2008.

Detective Garda Peter Cullen said that Mr Lenihan had made no reply when each of the 64 charges were put to him.

The DPP, he told Judge Paul Kelly, had asked for the case to be adjourned until the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court in July.

Judge Kelly remanded Mr Lenihan on bail until July 28, ordering him to surrender his passport and sign on at Letterkenny Garda Station once a week.
