DONEGAL TRAIL DERRY AT HALF-TIME IN ULSTER SFC QUARTER-FINAL

Donegal are trailing Derry by two points at half-time in a fascinating Ulster SFC quarter-final at Celtic Park.

Donegal have adopted a blanket defence, and have made it very difficult for Derry in the opening half.  donegal gaa logo

Donegal have had 13 men back inside their own half, for large parts of the opening period, in an attempt to curb Derry getting quality ball inside to their forwards.

The downside of adopting such a defensive approach, is the fact they’re allowing Derry to have so much primary possession.

Derry have scored three of their six points from frees, through Mark Lynch (2) and Emmett Bradley.

Emmett Bradley, Niall Holly and Ciaran McFaul scored three wonderful points from play for Derry.

Donegal scored three fine points from play, through Darrach O’Connor, Christy Toye and Karl Lacey.

Michael Murphy scored from a free, towards the end of the first-half, to leave Donegal trailing by two points.

It’s all to play for in the second-half, in what has been a tight, tense, and cagey defensive match so far.

Half-Time Score Donegal 0-04 Derry 0-06
