GLENSWILLY club man James Pat McDaid has been elected to take a seat for the Letterkenny Electoral Area on Donegal County Council.

James Pat, pictured with girlfriend Teresa Canning, was the surprise package of the Fianna Fail election strategy in the area where 10 seats were up for grabs.

“I want to thank Fianna Fail for selecting me to run in this election and all the support I got from the party,” said the 25-year-old.

“I’ll be the youngest councillor in there and I’m hoping to be the voice for young people in there.

“I want to thank every one who voted for me; I got votes from right across the political spectrum.

“My canvassers asked the electorate to give the young fella a chance. I have been given that chance and I will ensure that chance is not wasted.”

He added: “It is a very proud night for the McDaid family….the party’s in Glenswilly.”
